The inspiration of Nature
There is something mesmeric, mystical and deeply educational when we spend time in nature.
There is strong evidence of the benefits of downing tools, putting on some walking shoes or trainers and immersing yourself in nature. Its not a deep realisation that life goes on, all the problems, issues and situations we face are part of our daily lives and always will be. There is no such thing as a pain free life and it’s to what degree we allow situations and people to get to us.
Coming outside in nature and simply being has huge benefits in slowing down our hearts and minds and bring us into the beauty of the now, vastly under-utilised and even more relevant in the franticness of our days. You may not be aware that trees emit invisible chemicals known as phytoncides that have the potential to reduce stress hormones likes cortisol, lower-blood pressure and improve out precious immune system.
When we bring together nature and writing then a narrative begins to slowly emerge. Writing has long been established as a means to explore what our subconscious mind knows but very often we lack the resources and wherewithal to access. Its a precious resource. In nature we find metaphors ( a thing regarded as representative or symbolic of something else) for our own experiences as humans that we never considered before.
An open and curious mind can be cultivated and there is no more beautiful way to stop, be and examine.
“Nature itself is the best physician’’ Hippocrates
